Enterprise Unified Communications security: A Growing Concern
Attacks on IP-PBXs, remote branch office VoIP gateways and IP Telephony and UC systems have intensified in the recent months, causing tremendous financial damages to enterprises.
According to the CFCA report, the direct annual losses to enterprises caused by toll fraud attacks can be as high as $20 billion. Enterprises are exposed to a variety of UC-related security threats – including eavesdropping, telephony denial of service, identity theft and voice-to-data network attacks over converged networks.
Proliferation of smartphones at the work place has further exacerbated threats to corporate communications and data assets.
The partial protection provided by session border controllers (SBC) prevents only a fraction of the external attacks, leaving the UC network and assets exposed to most of the external and internal threats.
